on the trail

We recently had the opportunity to go back in time to see what it would of been like to head westward on the Oregon Trail. We started our (mile) trek by packing up all of the supplies needed to make the journey. The kids got to pull and walk beside our wagon. During our voyage we sent a telegram to our loved ones, experienced justice on the trail, were attacked by bandits, witnessed a wedding, negotiated with the natives and unfortunately had to bury a fellow member of the team. Once we reached our destination we had a grand celebration with story telling, dancing, weaving, doll making and ash cakes. The kids had a blast! It was a super fun time and experience. I love homeschooling!

weaving loom

We recently got to go back in time to experience pioneer life on the trail. While we were there we got to try out a bit of weaving. The girls loved it! so we had to make one. I picked up the frame pieces at the art store, poppie put some nails in the top and bottom and mae picked out some cute pink yarn.
and ta da a homemade weaving loom!

from the art desk

"food street" is a concept chloe came up with for a comic strip. I love it!

this beautiful watercolor was done by chloe for a homework assignment from chris (her art teacher)
she choose this picture from a magazine and tried her hand at few of the techniques.

and during all of this drawing and painting little mae is right there by her side drawing away!

kidspace

Ahh Kidspace.
I took Mae and her friend Julia to Kidspace on Friday and it made me think of all of the fun we have had here. How many trike rides, diaper changes, wet clothes and poop poo platters I've been served. This place remains the same yet my girls are growing growing growing so fast. Everytime we visit I realize how much they have grown. How many times have I sat, walked behind and carried these girls in and out of the bug exhibit, up the water drop tower and through the ant hole. I think our kidspace days are sadly almost over but I will always have the memories.
