on the trail

We recently had the opportunity to go back in time to see what it would of been like to head westward on the Oregon Trail. We started our (mile) trek by packing up all of the supplies needed to make the journey. The kids got to pull and walk beside our wagon. During our voyage we sent a telegram to our loved ones, experienced justice on the trail, were attacked by bandits, witnessed a wedding, negotiated with the natives and unfortunately had to bury a fellow member of the team. Once we reached our destination we had a grand celebration with story telling, dancing, weaving, doll making and ash cakes. The kids had a blast! It was a super fun time and experience. I love homeschooling!
